Previous Sessions
Thursday, July 13 - Heroes Potluck
Gather to enjoy time with Heroes families. Bring the kids and we'll enjoy some NHA play after we eat. Hosted by Tammy Holtan Arnol.
Thursday, June 1st - Intention vs. Agenda
The Nurtured Heart Approach® is all about BEING the approach: it’s not about using NHA as a set of techniques. I can be who I want to be - even when my child is acting out. What is my INTENTION in parenting? (The long-term goal that guides my actions.) Sometimes my “agenda” (a list of what needs to be done) comes in conflict with my intention. How do we keep focused on what is important and not get sidetracked by the demands of “life”, like getting out the door in the morning on time!
Tuesday, May 16th - Nurturing Yourself to Nurture the Family
Those who have flown have heard the safety announcement regarding oxygen masks: “Place it firmly over your nose and mouth, secure the elastic band behind your head, and breathe normally...If you are travelling with a child or someone who requires assistance, secure your mask first, and then assist the other person.” The Nurtured Heart Approach® works in a similar way. We can’t pour from an empty cup and therefore must be open to nurturing ourselves in order to support others. In this session we will discuss ways we use the NHA (and supporting techniques) to acknowledge negativity, foster positivity and define clear boundaries for ourselves. When we take care of ourselves we are better able to support the family.
Tuesday, April 11th - Clarity and Consequences
What are the biggest challenges we face in dealing with misbehavior and consequences in this approach? Is a reset enough of a consequence to teach the child he/she has done wrong? How do we enforce rules without punishing? What do we do when a child refuses a reset? How does being more clear help a child to find success?
Monday, March 6th - Fishbowl Conversation
Bring your celebrations and tribulations to this session. We'll have an open discussion among the group to help support and learn from one another.
Wednesday, February 15th - Building Better Relationships through Nurtured Heart
How does the approach help us build better relationships -not just with our children- but also with the important adults in our lives? Tonight, we will discuss how NHA can improve even the most intimate relationships in our lives. We will find that The 3 Stands™ can help us to get off the treadmill of old habits, arguments, and defenses and move into a new realm of positivity!
Tuesday, January 24th - Presentation by Tanya Frazier of the Children's Success Foundation - Notching Up the NHA
Thursday, December 8th - Focus areas: Group ground rules and reflecting on practice through the Three Stands™
Reflecting on The 3 Stands™ of the Nurtured Heart Approach® is essential to successful implementation. Many times we may classify an interaction with a child as disastrous or “so not Nurtured Heart,” when in fact we have done many things well. By exploring several scenarios as a way of reviewing the stands, we will share a structure for reflection and give you strategies for self-assessment that build from your strengths.
